Version 1.90 has been released on 20th May at 15:30 UTC, and contains some of the most innovative features yet.

Every second counts

Zwift have now added the ability to manually trigger splits / laps, to facilitate manual intervals and are displayed in a new sidebar in the in-game HUD and are included in FIT files.

In addition to this, when undertaking a structured workout, each interval will trigger a ”lap” per block.

Zwift note that “to view these splits after your workout, press this context-sensitive Toggle Side Display button which appears when Splits have been triggered.”

Zwift explains that there are multiple ways to trigger a split which are as follows:

  • Select the New Split icon in the Action Bar(available both in-game and in the Zwift Companion app)
  • Select the on-screen Lap button (available on all platforms except Apple TV)
  • Use the tab key on your keyboard. This will not work in a workout, however, as this is the shortcut for skipping the interval.

  • Customize the Zwift Ride drop bar buttons in Zwift Settings → Hardware → Drop Buttons and select the option New Split (L) & Power Up (R).

Other updates and fixes

  • Updated mini-map for more improved appearance on flat routes.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the mini-map elevation profile to be stuck at the start of some routes.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Leaderboard visibility setting to behave as if it were set to “Auto” when the “Always” setting was selected.
  • Fixed gaps in the roadway on the Douce France route in France.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the roadway to flicker in some sections on the R.G.V. route in France.
  • iOS: Stability improvements.

Summing up

As a platform, it is evident that Zwift are now adding minor enhancements that have a big impact. It started with the customisable Head Up Display (HUD), the recent update to the Companion app that tracks your fitness and allows the integration of outside rides, gives users an indication of their fitness levels and now the ability to do manual laps allows for freestyle interval training. Perhaps an “On-demand” climb portal would provide additional routes, that have already been developed. We will just have to wait and see what Zwift have in store in the next few months.
