When MyWhoosh hosted the UCI Cycling Esports World Championship on 26th October it marked a milestone in the development of their platform and solidified their place in the cycling industry. The evolution of MyWhoosh over the last 10 months has been astonishing, so let’s look back at the wild ride that they have been on.
Coach-led sessions
The early part of the year saw the release of version 3.6.0. This introduced coach-led training sessions. As MyWhoosh describes, “there are pre-recorded sessions guided by expert coaches, offering structured workout plans at your convenience.”
Taking that to the next level, MyWhoosh also introduced live coaching sessions, that are interactive and have grown in popularity throughout the year.
MyWhoosh Link App
Released at the end of March, shortly after the release of version 3.6.0, was the MyWhoosh Link App. This provides the ability to view your activities and plan what events you want to ride. Post race, you can review your stats but the real value is allowing you to communicate with fellow riders in game.
MyWhoosh Verification
Effort has been focussed on ensuring fair racing. This has been done via the “Performance and Verification Program.” As MyWhoosh explains “the Performance Verification Program can now detect and address any unfair practices in real-time, by booting out these players and notifying other riders during premium racing events, ensuring a level playing field for all participants. enhances the integrity of competitions, providing transparency and maintaining the trust of the community by ensuring that every achievement is genuinely earned.”
MyWhoosh and Apple TV
Whilst launching the MyWhoosh Link App, they simultaneously launched MyWhoosh on Apple TV, allowing the platform to be accessed by a wider audience.
MyWhoosh GO
Making the platform accessible to as many users as possible has been a key focus for MyWhoosh. In June, they released a version of the platform that could be used on less powerful PCs. This was called MyWhoosh GO.
Data Migration
Also in June, MyWhoosh released version 3.7.0. This version had the functionality to import your rider data from other platforms such as Zwift. This meant that all of your history could be imported to the platform, and you would use this to level-up and receive the associated benefits. This was the first time that your data from one platform could be reflected in another. As MyWhoosh outlined, “Keep your virtual palmares by transferring your profile rating and player level from any other indoor cycling platform to MyWhoosh. Simply submit all relevant data from your current profile, along with supporting proof. Upon verification, your level, distance, level rewards (transferred to MyWhoosh coins) and elevation gain will be reflected on your profile.”
Name change – MyWhoosh and MyWhoosh HD
With the release of version 3.7.0 some renaming took place. MyWhoosh GO became the standard platform and was simply called MyWhoosh. The original MyWhoosh required a high spec PC to get the full experience and so it became MyWhoosh HD.
World building
Now that MyWhoosh had addressed the previous issues of accessibility to the platform, focus now turned to world building, quite literally. Version 3.7.0. added California, (USA) and Hudayriyat Island, (UAE). Version 3.8.0, which was launched in August, saw the Switzerland map added to the platform. This was in time for the UCI World Road Cycling Championships in September. The introduction of MyWhoosh World consists of an “imaginary route spanning 333.59 km of diverse landscapes.” MyWhoosh urges you to “explore snow-covered mountains, active volcanoes, and futuristic cityscapes.”
Season Pass
MyWhoosh is a free to use app. However, in August, they introduced a new feature called “Season Pass.” This is a paid feature which allows the user to “Unlock exclusive challenges and rewards. Spanning 90 days, the pass includes 60 days of active challenges and a 30-day cool down period for claiming rewards.”
Community focus
With the app accessible to a wide audience, new worlds to try and innovative features like live Coach-led sessions, MyWhoosh has been actively growing the community. Throughout the year, on a monthly basis, MyWhoosh have been issuing a newsletter, nicely named “Spin City,” which collates the latest news from the cycling world. The next evolution was, of course, podcasts. At the end of August, their new podcast, “Inside the Ride” was launched. Its aim is to give users of the platform a greater insight into what goes on behind the scenes and a following is quickly growing.
Summing up
MyWhoosh has significantly enhanced its platform throughout the year by introducing features such as Coach-led training sessions, the MyWhoosh Link App, and the Season Pass, all aimed at improving user accessibility and engagement. To address the on-going challenge of fairness, the Performance and Verification Programme has been created. These developments, alongside the addition of new worlds and community-focused initiatives, underscore MyWhoosh’s commitment to fostering a vibrant cycling community.
