Over recent years, ROUVY has expanded to become one of the leading indoor training platforms. It operates in a unique space which utilises real-life videos, where users can cycle defined courses and the smart trainer applies appropriate resistance to create a real-world experience. ROUVY confirmed that they have a total of over two thousand real-life routes from all corners of the globe, giving riders an alternative to the more gamified options available when riding indoors.

Origins of ROUVY

ROUVY was developed by brothers Petr and Jiří Samek. In a recent interview with ROUVY, it was explained that both were “keen cyclists who had a vision to blend real-world scenery with indoor trainers. The initial idea stemmed from their earlier work, “SportSoft,” which they created during their university days to measure competition results.”

ROUVY noted that “Petr and Jiří aimed to fix boring indoor training by combining high-quality, real-world video footage paired with true GPS data and augmented reality (AR) capabilities, allowing cyclists to ride iconic outdoor routes indoors.”

ROUVY was first launched in 2007 and has been in a continuous state of refinement and improvement. However, as ROUVY noted, “this culminated in a full redesign of the brand’s identity in 2023, which is when customers would’ve first seen the ROUVY that they now know. “Fundamental to this rebranding was “putting product functionality at the forefront, improving rider functionality without altering the fundamentals.”

The name

ROUVY, correctly written using capital letters, doesn’t actually mean anything specific. The backstory is that in the early days of the product, the founders Petr and Jiří were looking for a brand name that would be universal in major global languages, and they settled on ROUVY.

Current market position

ROUVY offers something different, it is uniquely positioned to present riders with a comprehensive library of real routes and, because of this, have found their niche within the indoor cycling world. When asked about this, they clarified that they are “committed to providing the best indoor cycling experience for all and remained focused on this rather than trying to look at comparisons with other indoor apps.”

Growth

When you think of the leading indoor cycling apps, ROUVY is among those and over the last few years, ROUVY has come into its own as users look for an alternative to cycling virtual lands. When asked about their growth, it was explained that it happened organically.

“ROUVY’s mission is, and has always been, to build the most authentic indoor cycling app that replicates the outdoor riding experience for cyclists and brings it indoors through real-life routes. This is something that ROUVY always stays true to, and when we see opportunities to help deliver this, the team is always open to exploring them. In terms of ‘growth strategy’, ROUVY has focused on the product and experience first.

In recent years, partnerships with leading races, teams and athletes from across cycling and triathlon have facilitated community growth whilst still looking to provide an elevated experience. These include current partnerships with IRONMAN, Challenge Series and Challenge Roth, WorldTour teams Lidl-Trek and Visma Lease-a-Bike, as well as professional athletes, including Kat Matthews and Patrick Lange, to name just two.”

ROUVY really became the dominant player in the real-life video space in January 2025, when they purchased FulGaz, a similar platform that was owned by the Ironman Group, an opportunity that arose from ROUVY’s discussions with IRONMAN about forming a multi-year partnership.

Partnerships with WorldTour teams

ROUVY is the home to two of the leading WorldTour cycling teams, Visma | Lease a Bike and Lidl-Trek. These bring a professional level of training sessions to their users. When asked about these, ROUVY commented that “Partnerships with WorldTour teams are part of ROUVY’s long-term mission to bring pro cycling closer to our users. Through these partnerships, ROUVY also provides these riders with an innovative training and race-preparation tool, something that was appealing to teams.

ROUVY has seen the success of these partnerships and its goal of connecting pros with its community through recent Group Rides on the platform, with Wout van Aert in particular drawing thousands of riders to register to ride with him.”

Future plans

Given the expansion of the product, ROUVY’s focus is on expanding their library but would not elude any of their future developments, which are clearly under wraps as they look to push the boundaries on what is possible in this space. “ROUVY is constantly adding new routes from around the world, and that won’t be any different this year, with exciting plans in the world. Innovation remains at ROUVY’s core and is something that drives new developments within the app and with the user experience. As a result, the team is always working on new ways of pushing its boundaries, but for now, you’ll have to wait to find out what’s next.”

Summing up

In summary, ROUVY has established itself as a leader in the indoor cycling market by offering a unique blend of real-world routes and catering to cyclists seeking an authentic training experience. With strategic partnerships, ROUVY looks to offer something different to the training platforms that currently are on the market.
