About Mountain Massif
Created in March 2021 as the conclusion to an article that documented how events were hosted on Zwift, the Monday Mountain Massif TT event gained a strong following. The race was inspired by one of the most exciting finishes in recent Tour de France history.
On the final stage of the 2020 edition of the Tour de France, a mountain time trial, Tadej Pogačar beat his fellow countryman Primož Roglič to win the yellow jersey, the most famous garment in cycling and win the Tour de France. It was an incredible spectacle and the Mountain Massif TT event replicates that.
The concepts that underpin Mountain Massif are deep rooted
Following an arduous battle with cancer, I decided to tackle some of life’s unfinished goals, which included cycling iconic mountains, made famous by the Tour de France. Despite the challenge, they did not compare to many of the personal difficulties we tackle on a daily basis.
At the core of all the Mountain Massif events is the theme of “the ongoing challenge,” and consequent feeling of “achievement” when those are overcome. This includes overcoming our physical challenges and intangible limits which we place upon ourselves. Depending on your focus, the Mountain Massif events can be as much about racing yourself as racing those around you.
The evolution of Mountain Massif
With the success of the Monday Mountain Massif TT, additional events were created, such as the Midweek Mountain Massif, replicating the time trial format that proved successful. Non-time trail races with mountaintop finishes were also added all under the Mountain Massif umbrella. With the introduction of structured training sessions, Mountain Massif is continuing to evolve to provide more than just events to race with the goal to help those tackle their own “Mountain Massif”.
So ask yourself “what is your Mountain Massif?”
