In December 2024, Elite announced that they had made updates to their Direto XR and Direto XR-T models to allow Zwift virtual shifting via the Zwift Cog and Click.
You would simply need to replace your cassette with the Zwift Cog and you would then have access to 24 virtual gears via the Zwift Click, the intuitive two-button controller or the more advanced Zwift Play.
Elite noted that they were working on bringing this compatibility to their other trainers and in May 2025, they delivered. Firmware updates for Justo, Justo 2, Avanti, Suito(-T), Direto, Direto X, and Direto XR-T were delivered in May, so I got myself a Zwift Cog and installed it on to my Justo.

Installing the Zwift Cog
Installing the Zwift Cog is relatively simple, provided you have the correct tools and pay attention to details. To complete the task, you will need a Chain Whip and Cassette Lockring tools.
You will notice that on the box of the Zwift Cog is a QR code that gives you step by step instructions. An example is below.

These instructions are a good guideline, but theory and the practicalities of bike mechanics never really align. Here is my guide to installing the Zwift Cog onto my Justo.
Step 1 – Remove your old cassette
Remove your old cassette using the Chain Whip and Cassette Lockring tool.
Step 2 – Unbox the Zwift Cog
Unbox the Zwift Cog and remove the plastic cone that holds the components in place.

Step 3 – Install the spacer
Install the spacer that comes with the Zwift Cog, onto the hub. If your hub is a little worn, like mine was, this will require a bit of effort.

Step 4 – Install the Zwift Cog
This is where the theoretical guide that Zwift supplies and the realities differ. Due to my hub being slightly worn out, I had to disassemble the Zwift Cog and install each component, one at a time.
This wasn’t particularly difficult, just time-consuming.

Step 5 – Tighten the Zwift Cog
Using the Chain Whip and Cassette Lockring tool, secure the Zwift Cog. Be mindful to ensure that you have installed it so it is straight and that it is fully tightened.

Step 6 – Update the Firmware
As Elite highlights, “If you own a Direto, Direto X, Direto XR Team, Justo, Suito, or Suito-T, you can update your firmware using the Upgrado app, available on smartphones and tablets. Connect your trainer via Bluetooth, follow the instructions, and activate Zwift Cog and Click compatibility.”
Step 7 – Connect your bike
Simply connect your bike to your smart trainer and enjoy the ride. You can adjust the Zwift Cog by twisting it, to align your chain, if it is rubbing.
Upgrade to Zwift Cog
