I have previously reviewed the Hypervolt 2 by Hyperice  and was suitably impressed by the product.  I therefore had high expectations of the Hypervolt Go 2, which is a travel-friendly version of the Hypervolt 2.

As previously noted in the Hypervolt 2 review, if you are considering using such a product, I would always advise first speaking with a suitably qualified and experienced Health Care Professional (i.e. Medical Doctor).

The Hypervolt Go 2 massage gun

The Hypervolt Go 2 is a handheld percussion massage gun that you can use to relieve soreness, muscle pain and tension.  It is Hyperice’s most compact massage gun and is noticeably smaller and lighter than the Hypervolt 2 making it ideal to put in your hand luggage if you are participating in any overseas sporting activities or simply going on holiday and need to relieve the aches and pains accumulated from a full day of sightseeing.  It is approved by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to stow in your carry-on luggage but sadly doesn’t come with a carry case.

Its smaller size and lighter weight, coupled with a rubber grip, make it easier to hold and manage, whilst still delivering a solid massage, especially if you following the instructional videos that can be easily viewed in the Hyperice app, that can be downloaded to your mobile device.

The technical specifications are as follows:

  • Weight: 1.5 lbs / 0.68 kg
  • Size: 7.5 x 2.5 x 9.5 in / 276 x 194 x 76 mm (H x W x D)
  • Battery life: 3 hours
  • Speed: 3 speeds of percussion
  • Motor: Brushless high-torque 40W motor
  • Head attachments: 2 (flat, bullet)

Costs and what you get

Priced at £129 / $139 USD, this is somewhat less expensive than the Hypervolt 2. However, you are still getting a lot for your investment:

  • Hypervolt Go 2
  • 5V USB-A to USB-C charging cable
  • Head attachments (2)
  • Instructions (including stickers)

How it works

The Hypervolt Go 2 is very simple to use and works in the same way as the Hypervolt 2.    To turn on the device, you press and hold the “On” button that is located at the top of the handle and the LED at the base will light up to indicate it is powered up.  The level of charge that the device has is displayed on the LED light band on the handle.  The colour green indicates a fully charged battery, amber being medium and red denotes that there is limited battery life remaining and you need to recharge the device.

To recharge it, simply use the included USB charging cable and connect to the port at the bottom of the device.  A full charge is indicated when the LED light band on the handle is green.  A fully charged Hypervolt Go 2 will last 3 hours.

There are 3 speed settings, Level 1: 36 Hz / 2,200 PPM, Level 2: 45 Hz / 2,750 PPM, Level 3: 53 Hz / 3,200 PPM.  The speed settings are changed by simply pressing the same “On” button again, allowing you to cycle through the different speeds.  There are lights next to the “On” button that indicates the speed setting.   To turn off the device, you simply hold down the “On” button and the device will power off.

Attachments and changing heads

The Hypervolt Go 2 comes with two interchangeable heads, allowing you to switch to different shapes depending on the specific massage task or muscle group you’re targeting.

To change heads, simply pull the mounted one out and push the new one on.  The two attachment heads that are included with the Hypervolt Go 2 are the flat head and bullet head.

  • Flat head: Used for larger surface areas such as quads, hamstrings, back, and chest.
  • Bullet head:  Used for trigger points found in glutes, hips, traps, shoulders, and other complex muscle groups.

The flat head is one of the most commonly used massage gun attachments due to its broad, smooth surface that delivers even pressure across large muscle areas. It’s especially effective for general muscle relaxation and post-workout recovery.

The bullet head attachment is designed for deep tissue massage, targeting specific muscle knots and trigger points with precision. Its cone-like shape and small contact area allow it to reach deep muscle layers that are often difficult to access with broader attachments.

These are the two most common attachments used, which is why they have been provided, sadly there are no carry cases provided.  Additional head attachments can be purchased, there is a set of five attachments called the Hypervolt Applicator Set, which costs £30 as well as Heated Head Attachment, which costs £59.

Heated Head Attachment

The Heated Head Attachment is compatible with all Hypervolt device and has a flat head that has three levels of heat ranging from 43°C to 49°C and is charged using a supplied USB-C cable.

The Heated Head Attachment is designed to improve the effectiveness of percussive massage by using heat therapy.  This is innovative and is naturally a step up from simply using the flat head attachment.  With the heated head the heat increases blood flow, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, aiding recovery.  For myself, it’s effective and certainly eases the soreness of my muscles.

Noise

The Hypervolt Go 2 isn’t particularly noisy or intrusive when used.

On the first speed setting, the sound measured 65 decibels (dB), the sound levels of a normal conversation.  This increased to around 70 dB on the second setting and 75 dB on the third. 70 dB equates to the sound of a vacuum cleaner, so it’s not particularly loud.  As I noted previously in my review of the Hypervolt 2’s noise level, the same applies here: “it’s not too loud, but loud enough if you were using it whilst watching television, you would need to increase the volume.”

How I use the Hypervolt Go 2

When I first started using the Hypervolt 2 and now the Hypervolt Go 2, I instinctively focused on applying it directly to sore areas, without much structure. Like many beginners, I didn’t take a particularly scientific approach—and, since muscles are interconnected, this method offered only limited benefits.

As I became more familiar with the device, I explored its Bluetooth-guided programs and began following the structured routines found in the Hyperice app. This shift helped me understand the importance of treating surrounding muscle groups, not just the area in pain.

Although the Hypervolt Go 2 doesn’t have Bluetooth connectivity, you can still utilise the Hypervolt video guides that are available in the Hyperice app.   By following these you will explicitly target muscle groups, thus utilising your time more effectively.

These days I take a more holistic approach, using different speed settings and guided routines to work through full muscle chains. This has led to noticeably better results in terms of recovery, flexibility, and overall muscle health.

On the strongest setting, there isn’t much recoil, and you can work the massage gun into areas of discomfort and hold it in position.  With the Hypervolt Go 2 being lighter, I was able to use it for longer without my wrist getting tired.

What difference does it make?

While everyone’s experience with recovery tools is unique, I’ve personally found the Hypervolt 2 and Hypervolt Go 2 to be a game-changer in my training routine. After using it, my legs feel noticeably more prepared for the next demanding session—looser, more responsive, and ready to perform at a high level.  However, before using a percussion massage gun always refer to a qualified medical practitioner because there are clear times when such a device shouldn’t be used, such as with broken bones.

How it differs from the Hypervolt 2

If you already have the Hypervolt 2, you may be wondering what the differences are between the two models.  There are several main differences:

  1. Size – the Hypervolt Go 2 is noticeably smaller. This is because it is designed to be taken with you on the move, hence the name “Go.”
  2. Weight – it is noticeably lighter, weighing in at 1.5 lbs / 0.68 kg compared to the Hypervolt 2 at 1.8 lbs / 0.81kg.
  3. Speed settings – The speed settings differ, which means that the Hypervolt Go 2 isn’t simply a smaller version of the Hypervolt 2.  The Hypervolt Go 2 is actually more powerful.

  • Price – The Hypervolt Go 2 is priced at £129 / $139 USD compared to £199 / $229USD for the Hypervolt 2.
  • Accessories – The Hypervolt Go 2 comes with only two attachments, whilst the Hypervolt 2 comes with five. To buy a “Hypervolt Applicator Set” (which comes with the Hypervolt 2 as standard) costs £30.
  • Bluetooth – The Hypervolt Go 2 doesn’t have Bluetooth® to connect via a device to the Hyperice App (for automated speed control).

Summing up

The Hypervolt Go 2 stands out as an excellent investment for those seeking a portable and effective percussion massage gun.  It performs as you would expect and has all the essential features at a competitive price. Its compact design, ease of use and transportability, coupled with the essential attachments means it comes with exactly what you need to keep you fit and can be easily used at home or on the go.
