In August 2023, it was announced that MyWhoosh had secured the rights to host the UCI Esports World Championships for the next three years (2024-26).

The fourth edition of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships will be held in October 2024 and be hosted in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

About the event

Exact details of the event are yet to be released at this early stage, however, MyWhoosh have stated that the 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships will include qualifying rounds to decide the finalists competing in Abu Dhabi.

Previous editions of the Esports World Championships saw riders compete from their home location, this time, all participants who qualify for the final will race together, on site.  This is because MyWhoosh will arrange for the top 20 female and male athletes from the qualifying rounds to travel to Abu Dhabi, where they will compete shoulder to shoulder.

Continued growth of cycling within the UAE

Popularity of cycling within the UAE has grown significantly over the last few years. In 2017, UAE Team Emirates, was formed and made their debut on the World Tour, the pinnacle of professional cycling with the goal of promoting a healthy lifestyle through cycling, whilst simultaneously representing the UAE.  Following in 2019, was the first edition of the UAE Tour and to confirm the region’s growing cycling status, the UCI have announced that Abu Dhabi will host the 2024 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, the 2028 UCI Road World Championships, the 2028 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships and the 2029 UCI Track World Championships.
